SHPD now offering permanent drop box for unused meds

The Signal Hill Police Department (SHPD) has installed a permanent prescription-medicine drop box in the lobby of the Signal Hill Police Station, 2745 Walnut Avenue, according to police. The drop box was installed in furtherance of the National Take Back Initiative, according to the SHPD. The service is free, and those who drop off medications may do so anonymously with no questions asked, according to the SHPD. The drop box is only for pills and patches; liquids, needles and other sharps are not accepted.
The purpose of the drop box is to prevent medicines that languish in home cabinets from being diverted, misused or abused, according to the SHPD.
