Signal Hill girl crowned PETA's 2015 Cutest Vegan Kid

Signal Hill is officially home to a nationally recognized animal activist— and she’s only 8 years old. Genesis Butler has just been chosen as the female winner of PETA Kids’ 2015 Cutest Vegan Kids contest— a title she beat out dozens of kids ages 12 and under to take home. Along with a year’s worth of bragging rights, Genesis will also receive a trophy and a cruelty-free prize pack, according to PETA.
“From organizing pro-animal demonstrations to encouraging her friends and family to choose healthy, humane meals, Genesis lets nothing stand in the way of her efforts to help animals,” says PETA Director of Youth Outreach and Campaigns Marta Holmberg. “Every vegan kid is setting a great example for people of all ages and making the world a better place by the forkful.”

When Genesis realized at the age of 3 that many of her animal friends were also her food, she was devastated, according to PETA. With the help of PETA Kids’ website, she dropped meat, eggs and dairy products for good and convinced her entire family to do the same. Since then, she’s participated in animal-rights demonstrations in Southern California and even organized her own “sad clown” protest, rallying a throng of kids to call for an end to Ringling Bros.’ treatment of the animals it forces to perform, according to PETA.
She’s now hard at work starting her own nonprofit organization, Genesis for Animals, to help fund people who foster animals.
