The Signal Hill Police Department will have additional officers on patrol on St. Patrick’s Day, Thursday, March 17, to look for impaired drivers suspected of being under the influence.
Additional officers will be on patrol from 8 p.m. Thursday to 4 a.m. Friday.
“Have a game plan before you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day,” Signal Hill Police Sgt. Don Moreau said in a statement. “Designate a sober driver or make other plans to get home safely.”
During the 2019 St. Patrick’s Day holiday, nearly half of all traffic deaths throughout the country involved a drunk driver, police said.
Moreau noted in his statement that alcohol, cannabis, prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs and illegal drugs can all cause impairment and lead to a DUI.
