The City of Signal Hill will host the inaugural Community Health Day on Saturday, Sept. 29, 8am to 11am at Discovery Well Park, 2200 Temple Ave. Dubbed “Let’s Move, Signal Hill,” the free event will feature a Community Walk and Fun Run, fitness booths and demonstrations, healthy snacks, a kids’ fun zone and prize drawings.
The Community Walk and Fun Run will have two different starting points. The Hill Challenge will start at Hill Street and Obispo Avenue and will begin with a climb up Hill Street. This course will be approximately two miles long and will end at Discovery Well Park. The Scenic Route course will begin on Temple just north of the park entry driveway. It will be approximately 1.5 miles long and will also end at the park.
Free registration will begin at 7:15am at the starting locations. Both events will begin at 8am, and families and children are welcome.
Adults and children can try a variety of fitness activities at the demonstrations, beginning at 9am. Some will be geared specifically to adults or children, and some will be for families to enjoy together. There will also be several fitness booths offering health and fitness information. For children, there will be an inflatable jumper, a craft activity and samples of healthy energy snacks.
The following street closures will be in effect from 6am to 10am:
• Hill Street between Temple Avenue and Obispo Avenue
• Temple Avenue between Hill Street and Skyline Drive
• E. Panorama Drive between Skyline Drive and Molino Avenue
• Skyline Drive between Ohio Avenue and E. Panorama Drive
• Ohio Avenue between Skyline Drive and E. Panorama Drive
Parking will be available on the streets surrounding the park.
