The Aquarium of the Pacific raised the final steel beam of its expansion project Pacific Visions on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Guests, including Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia and a penguin from the June Keyes Penguin Habitat, were invited to sign their name on the beam— or leave their footprints in the case of non-humans. Jerry Schubel, president and CEO of the Aquarium of the Pacific, said the project will provide new exhibit galleries and an immersive theatre. The state-of-the-art facility will be the first major expansion of the aquarium. Pacific Visions is projected for a spring 2019 completion date.
