Skateboard Safety Fair seeks donations

The sixth annual Skateboard Safety Fair will be in Orizaba Park this weekend, in Long Beach, but it needs help from the community.
The West East-Side Community Association (WESCA) is asking businesses, individuals and other interested entities to help create an event that will benefit all the children through donations of any size.
This is a small neighborhood event that will draw approximately 300 children from the community. The focus is safe skateboarding for beginners, with the goal of providing each child who attends with a free safety helmet. From cash donations, WESCA purchases these safety helmets for participating children. Merchandise donations go toward the Participation Reward drawing.
The event features skateboard safety education and demonstrations, a Long Beach Police Department overview of local laws and skateboarding, free helmets education fitting and distribution for all participants, the city of Long Beach Mobile Skate unit, skateboard safety usage pledges, free hot dogs, and refreshments.
Checks should be made payable to WESCA President Jan Ward, 1341 Gladys Ave., Long Beach, CA 90804. For additional information, call (562) 433-0801.
WESCA, the Neighborhood Services Bureau, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine, the local business community, Long Beach Police Department, Police Officers Association, Police Athletic League, and 4th District Councilmember Patrick O’Donnell and his staff are already sponsoring the event.
WESCA has won numerous awards for community involvement, most recently having been honored with a Neighborhood Organization Award given by the Neighborhood Services Bureau.
