So Cal restaurant critics recognize Long Beach eateries for excellence

Several Long Beach restaurants received top honors from the prestigious Southern California Restaurant Writers Association.
The Madison, L’Opera and Sir Winston’s received the Golden Sceptre and the Golden Bacchus Wine Award. Parker’s Lighthouse and Chelsea also won the Golden Sceptre, the association’s highest honor given by a special vote of the membership and the restaurant must have received an accumulative 95 points or above to be considered.
Members of the Southern California Restaurant Writers Association review more than 600 restaurants and hotel eateries from Santa Barbara to the Mexican border.
The awards are presented annually based on scores for food, service, ambiance and beverages.
The association was formed in 1975 as a California nonprofit corporation that seeks to improve the quality of the restaurant industry in this region. To further this objective, the organization bestows awards upon restaurants and individuals whose standards of quality and service have been found to be of special merit.
“We are very proud of our establishments that have been praised with this esteemed honor,” said Steve Goodling, president and CEO of the Long Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Our restaurants play a pivotal role in the dynamic mix we provide to our business and leisure travelers when they visit Long Beach.”
The Southern California Restaurant Writers Association also awarded gold, sterling silver and silver awards, as well as recommendations, to restaurants in a variety of categories.
Other Long Beach restaurants that received awards in their respective categories include:
Gold: awarded to Sky Room, a continental restaurant, and Alegria Cucina Latino, an ethnic food restaurant–both averaged more than 90 points.
Sterling Silver was awarded to Frenchy’s Bistro for scoring between 85 and 89 points.
Silver awards, for restaurants with scores between 80 and 84 points, were given to Promenade on the Queen Mary, George’s Greek Deli, La Creperie Café and Buono’s Authentic Pizzeria.
