Soroptimist International recognizes women from local schools

At the Second Annual Scholarship Luncheon for Soroptimist International of Long Beach (SILB) recently, winners were honored with more than $26,000 in scholarships and awards. The luncheon honored local students from the Poly High School “S” Club, Long Beach City College and California State University, Long Beach.
Honored at the event were Anamaria Garay, Sharareh (Sherry) Moazed, Dulce Figuero, Delilah Brown, Pou Beason, Anh Do, Nisrine Sek-lawi, Crystal Wright, Chandra Jackson, Divya Kernik, Denise St. Jean, Jazmine Mayfield, Michelle Nguyen, Rebecca Weiss, and Rose Winter Davis. The Women’s Opportunity Award first, second and third place winners were Susan M. Gil, Dominique Dalanni, and Roxana Flores, respectively.
Soroptimist International, the world’s largest classified service organization for women, brings together professional and executive women, and it sponsors a number of international projects designed to improve the status of women in communities and throughout the world. SILB members are educators, doctors, lawyers and businesswomen in the fields of healthcare, education, religion, nonprofit, real estate and journalism.
