The Port of Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners welcomed its newest member, Nick Sramek, to his first meeting last week.
Sramek, appointed by Mayor Bob Foster and unanimously approved by the City Council earlier this month, is an engineer and a resident of the city’s westside. He also served on the city’s Planning Commission for the last seven years.
Sramek succeeds John Hancock, who termed-out after 12 years of service. Hancock was first appointed in 1995 and reappointed in 2001.
Harbor Commissioners are appointed to six-year terms by the mayor. After their first term, commissioners are eligible for only one additional six-year term.
Sramek has lived nearly all of his life in Long Beach. He is a graduate of Long Beach Poly High School and Cal State Long Beach, where he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering. He is employed at The Aerospace Corporation in El Segundo as a senior project leader in system engineering, working on computer systems for satellites.
Board President Mario Cordero said Sramek is a fine addition to the Harbor Commission.
“Commissioner Sramek’s reputation for intelligence and clear-thinking is well known,” Cordero said. “While we will miss Commissioner Hancock, we welcome Nick Sramek to the Port of Long Beach.”
