St. Mary emergency department reapproved for pediatrics

St. Mary Medical Center’s emergency department has been reapproved as an Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP) by the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. Since 1985, St. Mary has earned the EDAP designation. According to L.A. County guidelines, an emergency department must adhere to strict requirements for: policies, procedures, and protocols; administration/coordination; personnel; quality improvement; support services; and equipment, supplies, and medications in order to qualify as an EDAP facility.
“We are proud to have achieved this designation once again, which demonstrates that we are dedicated to offering the highest level of care to the children of our community,” said Dr. Stephen Shea, St. Mary Medical Center Emergency Department director.
In addition to its quality pediatric care, St. Mary Medical Center is rated in the top five percent nationally in Emergency Medicine and Patient Safety (HealthGrades), and is home to a Level II Trauma Center and Disaster Resource Center.
