April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and students of Millikan High School will help raise money on Saturday, April 3 to prevent and treat abused children. Student organizer, Melanie Triplett-Hines, a senior at Millikan who loves kids, said she wanted to make her senior quest project volunteer efforts really count for the community.
After consulting with her senior project teacher, she chose to make child abuse her cause. She contacted the nonprofit organization For The Child and learned about the programs they provide for child-abuse victims and families, then she devised and coordinated a beach walk to raise money.
“I am especially happy knowing that the funds I raise will go directly to where I live,” said Triplett-Hines. “Since September, I have been working very hard to organize events to raise money and awareness for child-abuse awareness and prevention.”
She and her fellow students will walk a mile at Shoreline Village on April 3. The public can help by sponsoring a student walker for $25. All donations are tax-deductible and may be made online or by sending a check to: For The Child, 4565 California Ave., Long Beach, CA 90807.
