The Long Beach Playhouse is offering its 23rd annual Summer Youth Workshop in acting, music and dance for youth ages 7 to 16. Classes will be at the Playhouse, 5021 East Anaheim Street in Long Beach, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, June 25 through Friday, July 27, with no classes Wednesday, July 4. Tuition is $200 inclusive for the five-week long session.
Enrollment is limited to 50 students. The classes have a student-teacher ratio of 16 students per teacher. Each day, students will have an hour of music, an hour of dance and an hour of acting with professional instructors. Returning to teach classes in acting and dance are Terra Taylor Knutson, Victoria Baker and Andrew Zacharias.
Acting classes include improvisation and scene study. Dance classes consist of musical comedy dance techniques. Music classes include vocal projection, enunciation, song preparation and performance.
The three disciplines of acting, dance and musical theatre come together in this five-week intensive program taught by three professional artists. Students explore the themes of team and self-esteem building, vocal and physical technique, and production basics as they work together to produce a mini musical production. Parents and friends are invited to the last day of the workshop to see a demonstration of techniques learned in class.
Workshop brochures and applications are available by calling (562) 494-1014 ext. 506. Since enrollment is limited, applications are accepted in order of the date received. Due to popular demand, parents are strongly urged not to enroll children who are unable to attend all of the classes.
