A 16-year-old boy was booked Wednesday on suspicion of killing a 29-year-old man on a bicycle during a hit-and-run collision in Long Beach over the summer.
Detectives responded to the intersection of California Avenue and Harding Street on July 9 around 7:55 a.m. to a report of a hit-and-run collision between a vehicle and bicycle, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Police said the bike rider had been intentionally struck by a vehicle described as a dark-colored sedan being driven east on Harding at a high rate of speed.
The man, later identified as Leobardo Cervantes, was taken to a hospital, where he died several weeks later on July 26, according to police.
Police said they identified the teen, who was already in custody on unrelated charges, as a suspect in the hit-and-run, and he was booked Wednesday on suspicion of murder. His name was withheld due to his age.
The motive for the killing remains under investigation, police said.
