The Teachers Association of Long Beach, which includes teachers, nurses, speech pathologists and librarians from every LBUSD school, announced Tuesday, Dec. 1 its endorsement of Felton Williams for Long Beach school board in Area 2 and Jon Meyer for Long Beach school board in Area 4. The school board election is scheduled for April 12, 2016.

Vivian Malauulu, a journalism professor at Long Beach City College, announced on Sept. 21 her intention to run for the Long Beach Community College District board of trustees to represent WestLong Beach in next April’s municipal election.

Wayne Chaney, a firefighter with the Long Beach Fire Department, announced in November his intentions to not run for the 6th District Long Beach City Council position. He cited his commitment to his work as a firefighter and his family as his reasons for not running.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe announced on Nov. 19 his endorsement of Irma Archuleta’s campaign for a full term on the Long Beach Community College District Board. Archuleta was appointed to the board last year to fill the unexpired term of former trustee and current 7th District Long Beach City Councilmember Roberto Uranga, according to Supervisor Knabe’s office. Friends of Douglas Otto, the current president of the Long Beach City College board of trustees, also announced in November the support of Archuleta.

Douglas Otto, the president of the Long Beach City College board of trustees, is also seeking re-election to the board of trustees president position, he announced in September. His campaign kicked off on Oct. 21.

Second District Long Beach City Council candidate Jeannine Pearce announced on Oct. 9 the endorsements of more than 100 community leaders in the 2nd District. The Long Beach Chapter of the National Organization for Women, Pacific Shore, announced on Nov. 4 its endorsement of Pearce.
Ninth District Long Beach Councilmember Rex Richardson announced Nov. 17 his endorsement of Pearce for 2nd District Long Beach City Council.

Second Long Beach City Council candidate Eric Gray announced 69 endorsements from local leaders and small-business owners on July 20. The Eric Gray Campaign announced on July 29 that it received endorsements from Betty Karnette, a longtime Long Beach resident and former assemblymember and state senator, and 41 community leaders in Long Beach. Gray announced on Sept. 21 an endorsement from the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing, Pipefitting, and Sprinkler Fitting Industry (UA), Local 78. The local union represents over 1,700 plumbers in Los Angeles County, including many in the City of Long Beach. The United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers, & Allied Workers Union Local 36 announced its endorsement of Gray on Nov. 30. Roofers Union Local 36 is the Los Angeles County affiliate of the United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers, & Allied Workers, representing members of all levels of roofing and waterproofing systems.

L.A. City Councilmember Joe Buscaino announced Aug. 19 his endorsement of Warren Furutani in California’s 35th Senate District. Buscaino and Furutani had previously run against each other for L.A. City Council in 2012. Alice Harris and Arturo Ybarra— two community leaders from Watts— have also endorsed Furutani, his office announced on Dec. 1. Harris is the founder of Parents of Watts, which serves disadvantaged youths and adults. Ybarra is the founder of the Watts Century Latino Organization, which advocates for improved housing, public safety and education for local families.
