The first day of school arrived for students, teachers and other employees on Wednesday, Aug. 30 for all institutions in the Long Beach Unified School District, but it was an even bigger day of firsts for the group of freshmen at Browning High School. After years of district planning, officials at Browning welcomed its first set of students, a freshman class of 150 that will be the school’s first graduating class in 2021. The school, bordered by Redondo Avenue, Obispo Avenue and East Hill Street, is funded through Measure K and is a thematic institution that prioritizes career-pathway programs connected with tourism, recreation, hospitality, culinary arts and people movement.
