The Glory of Easter returns to the Crystal Cathedral in March

“The Glory of Easter,” a passion play recreating the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, returns to the Crystal Cathedral for a one-week engagement, Mar. 13 to Mar. 22.
Called the “largest and most spectacular” passion play of its kind, the live stage production unites a cast of more than 100 actors, dancers and volunteer performers together under the all-glass Crystal Cathedral. Live animals including horses, a baby camel, sheep, peacocks and goats share the stage with veteran stage actors portraying the roles of Jesus, Pilate, Mary Magdalene, Herod, Mary and others.
“Passion Week” events such as the entry into Jerusalem, Jesus cleansing the temple, the Last Supper, the trial, crucifixion, resurrection and ascension are recreated.
Eight live trumpeters and four drummers perform to a pre-recorded score by the London and Seattle Symphony orchestras.
The “Glory of Easter” features its signature flying angels, soaring at speeds of up to 25 mph and 80 feet high from the top of the Cathedral balconies to be suspended at an arm’s length distance from the audience.
“The audience response to the angels is moving,” says co-director and co-writer, Jeanne Dunn. “Acting as the messengers from God, their presence captivates, adding another emotional layer to the production.”
Seen by millions throughout its 20-year history, “The Glory of Easter” utilizes state-of-the art, special effects such as lifelike recreations of earthquakes, thunder storms and lightening.
“The Glory of Easter” boasts one of the largest sets in the world consisting of five miles of steel undergriding, spanning 124-feet across and 80-feet high.
“’The Glory of Easter’ is an exciting interpretation of the week that changed the course of history forever,” says Dunn. “Our hope is that audience members leave with a new sense of renewed hope and forgiveness, for that is the true meaning of Easter.”
“The Glory of Easter” performs Mar. 13 to Mar. 22. Attendance by children under seven is not recommended due to the vivid portrayal of Christ’s death and the length of the production.
Ticket prices range from $35 to $45. Special $20 discount nights and group pricing is available.
The Crystal Cathedral is located at 12141 Lewis Street in Garden Grove.
