Youth and parent-centered events take the spotlight this week, with plenty of options for Long Beach youth and their families to learn new things and make new friends amongst their community.
The seventh annual Celebration of the Young Child kicks off the weekend Saturday morning, followed by the annual Touch-A-Truck event Sunday. For a more educational focus, Confluence Rising is hosting a virtual workshop on juvenile restorative justice Monday night, M.O.R.E. Mothers is teaching new parents about baby safety practices Tuesday morning while Not Just A Mom Club is hosting a stroller stroll at the same time, and the Community Resource Center is throwing a period party Wednesday evening.
Additional community events include Food Finders’ 37th anniversary party Saturday morning, a record fair at Ambitious Ales Saturday afternoon, a group audio book walk Sunday morning, a Denim Day resource fair Wednesday evening and Whistlemania training Thursday night.
Friday 4/24
Art Night & Open Mic: 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. As part of the monthly Fourth Friday activation along the Fourth Street corridor, Native Sol and Earthing (2018 & 2022 E. Fourth St.) will be throwing a sustainable fashion show and open mic with live music. Free.
Puro Pari: 9 p.m. Those 21 and older can dance the night away to Bad Bunny at The Grasshopper (136 E. Anaheim St.).
Saturday 4/25
Rooted in Community: 9 a.m. to noon. Food Finders is celebrating its 37th anniversary with a community party at Admiral Kidd Park (2125 Santa Fe Ave.). There will be a food distribution beginning at 10 a.m., activities for children, refreshments and community resources. Free.
City Nature Challenge: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The global effort of City Nature Challenge will kick off in Long Beach at Willow Springs Park (2745 Orange Ave.), where residents can partake by downloading the iNaturalist app, collect data on local wildlife and share it with the world. This event will feature activities such as crafts, guided tours, a scavenger hunt and more. Free.
Community Workshop: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Residents can learn more about Long Beach’s Drake-Chavez Connection plan and get a first look at the draft for the plan at this community workshop and feedback opportunity at the Jenny Orapeza Community Center (401 Golden Ave.). RSVP online to request any translation services. For those who cannot attend the Saturday meeting, there will be a virtual meeting on Thursday, April 30. Free.
Celebration of the Young Child: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This annual celebration brings families of young children together to learn about resources available to them in a fun, family-friendly environment at the Billie Jean King Library (200 W. Broadway) and Lincoln Park (101 Pacific Ave.). There will be free vision tests, a bilingual storytime, cultural performances, a sensory exploration area, oral health assessments, vaccination clinics and more. Free.
Little Library: 10 a.m. to noon. The Long Beach Community Library will be offering free books to all at Wrigley Coffee (437 W. Willow St.). The library is also accepting book and zine donations. Free.
Fixit Clinic: Noon to 3 p.m. Residents can bring various items they own that are in need of repair such as bicycles, clothing, small appliances, toys, tech and more to the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library (5870 Atlantic Ave.). There is a limit of one item per person, and items will be fixed on a first-come, first-served basis by volunteers. Free.
Tinkling Workshop: Noon to 5 p.m. Kubo LB is kicking off AANHPI month with this cultural dance workshop to learn tinkling, a dance from the Philippines, at 3976 Atlantic Ave. Beginners can learn how to tinkle and those who know how can learn advanced tips. Record Fair: 4 p.m. Physical media lovers can shop from 10 local record vendors, enjoy beer and meet new people at this record fair at Ambitious Ales (4019 Atlantic Ave.). Free.

Touch-A-Truck: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The 10th annual Touch-A-Truck event allows children to explore a wide range of trucks at the Granada Ave. parking lot (5000 E. Ocean Blvd.). Free.
Audio Book Walk Club: 10:30 a.m. to noon. Take a group walk while listening to an audio book of your choice with the Audio Book Walk Club. The walk will begin at Portfolio Fit (4101 Olympic Plaza) with 30 minutes available for attendees to get a drink, then take off at 11 a.m. Attendees should bring water, comfortable walking shoes, headphones, sunscreen and protective sun gear. Free.
Holland Festival: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents can attend this Amsterdam-style outdoor party celebrating Dutch culture at P.O.A. Gemmrig Park (7390 Carson Blvd.). Enjoy Dutch food and home-baked treats, Indonesian street food, traditional games, a live DJ, kids crafts, a flea market, photo opps, a Heineken beer garden and more. Tickets are $10 at the door and kids under 12 are free.
Cat Lady Day Celebration: Noon to 5 p.m. Celebrate National Cat Lady Day at the Feline Good Social Club (301 Atlantic Blvd.) with a cat lady costume contest, spoken word performances from 3 to 4 p.m., a photobooth and discounted ticket prices. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased online. Each ticket provides entry for two people for one hour.
API Celebration: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Celebrate Korean culture at the Museum of Latin American Art (628 Alamitos Ave.) with Korean traditional dance, music and a cultural exchange. RSVP at molaa.org. Free.
Monday 4/27
Restorative Justice Training: 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Confluence Rising is hosting this virtual training on “Bringing Restorative Justice Values into Juvenile Diversion Practices.” Participants will explore how restorative justice values naturally overlap with juvenile justice work and learn more strategies of how to put those values into action with young people in this space of learning, reflection and growth. Registration is $50 and can be purchased online.

Stroller Stroll: 10:30 a.m. Join Not Just A Mom Club for this 30-minute walk and butterfly garden visit beginning at Bixby Park (130 Cherry Ave.). The walk will begin with an intro and a short book on butterflies, followed by a walk and playdate at the park. Free.
New Parent Workshop: 2:15 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Local nonprofit M.O.R.E. Mothers is hosting this workshop “Baby Safety & Thriving Together” at the Community Resource Center (5599 Atlantic Ave.). Attendees can learn suction guidance and baby care basics, car seat safety, safe sleep habits, baby CPR, after-birth healing and mental health support. Sign up by calling 562-256-9810. Speed Dating: 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Love on Draft will be hosting this speed dating event for singles ages 26-34 at The Attic on Broadway (3441 E. Broadway). Tickets are $33, include one beer or seltzer and can be purchased on Eventbrite.

Denim Day: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This rally and resource fair serves to support survivors of sexual abuse and assault, led by YWCA, LBPD and city leaders in front of City Hall (411 W. Ocean Blvd.). There will be a press conference, self-defense demo and resource fair. RSVP online. Free.
Period Party: 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Girls ages 8 to 14 are invited to the Long Beach Community Resource Center’s (5599 Atlantic Ave.) period party, featuring an empowering menstrual health workshop, food, drinks, games, prizes, advice and a wellness supplies gift set for 20 attendees.
