Summer may be gone, but fall has got it all. Need proof? Here’s just some of what’s going on in Long Beach this upcoming week.
This Friday through Sunday, check out three days of fun at SteelCraft Long Beach’s Oktoberfest or the Museum of Latin American Art’s weekend-long slate of lucha libre activities. Additional community events include Care Culture Collaborative’s Sunday block party, the public grand opening of Coffee Drunk’s new Belmont Shore location Saturday and Black Lives Matter Long Beach’s social and resource fair on Tuesday.
Those up for a stroll can saunter through Retro Row’s Fourth Fridays, take part in the 8th annual Ranchos Walk Saturday or the Caminamos Juntas event at Colorado Lagoon Sunday.
During the week, the Queen Mary will welcome lovers of cocktails and horror alike to venture into its Spookeasy on Monday. Plus, the Long Beach Public Library will continue its Vida Latina series with a family-friendly Elotería Festival Wednesday and a special edition of Book Vibe Book Club Thursday, both at Burnett Neighborhood Library.
Friday 9/25
Fourth Fridays: 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Long Beach’s Retro Row will host a plethora of pop-ups, live music and food and drink specials during its monthly Fourth Fridays event. The festivities include a spooky cat art show at Cool Cat Collective (2741 E. Fourth St.), a Nunchuck shoe collection drop at Seams Boutique (2218 E. Fourth St.) and an art night and open mic from Native Sol and Earthing (2018 E. Fourth St.). Free.
SteelCraft Oktoberfest: 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Lift your steins high for the three-day Oktoberfest celebration at SteelCraft Long Beach (3768 Long Beach Blvd.), kicking off with live polka music from West Coast Prost, plus food, beer and face painting. The festivities will continue Saturday from 2:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. RSVP online. Free.
Lucha Libre at MOLAA: 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The lucha libre-themed weekend at the Museum of Latin American Art (628 Alamitos Ave.) will begin with a book launch and reception for “Luchadores vs. Everything.” Throughout the weekend, guests can enjoy a lucha libre expo, live matches, film screenings, a marketplace, live music and meet-and-greets. The lucha libre fun continues Saturday from 3:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Daily general admission ranges from $20 to$65 on the museum’s website.
‘9 to 5’: 7 p.m. In honor of Dolly Parton, Wood Coffee Co. (2728 E. 10th St.) will screen the iconic comedy “9 to 5” for the September edition of its monthly movie night. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the film starts at 8 p.m.; early arrival is encouraged to get a good seat. During the event, Wood Coffee Co. will accept donations for Care Culture Collaborative’s block party on Sunday, collecting items such as new shampoo, menstrual products and toothbrushes. Free.
Saturday 9/26
Coffee Drunk Grand Opening: 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Coffee Drunk will open its newest Long Beach location, this time in Belmont Shore (4708 E. Second St.). The all-day celebration includes free tote bags for the first 100 customers, complimentary focaccia sandwiches at 10 a.m. courtesy of La Parolaccia Osteria Italiana, merch and gift card giveaways. Free.
Ranchos Walk: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Engage with Long Beach heritage through this annual 9.4-mile nature walk, beginning from Rancho Los Cerritos (4600 N. Virginia Road) and concluding at Rancho Los Alamitos (6400 E. Bixby Hill Road). There will also be 6.5-mile and 3-mile hike options for participants. The event will conclude with a celebration at Rancho Los Alamitos featuring music, games, activities and food and beverages for sale. Register online. Free.
Burrito Saturday: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 7th St. Collective and Feel Good Kitchen LB are teaming up for a mutual aid cooking workshop, with the goal of making 250 burritos to distribute. No kitchen experience is needed; those who sign up will learn basic kitchen skills, safety and how to cook. Cooking will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by packaging from noon to 4 p.m. Email s3v3nth.stcollective@gmail.com and mention whether you’re interested in cooking and/or packaging. Free Pet Adoptions: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Berth 55 and Long Beach Animal Care Services are teaming up for a pet adoption party where all adoption fees are waived, at 555 Pico Ave. Multiple pet supply businesses will be present, offering services such as pet grooming products, pet portraits, pup yogurt, handmade pet clothes, trinkets and more. There will also be baskets raffled off, a roller derby info booth, food for purchase, photo opportunities and more. Free to attend.
Waves of Ability: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Adaptive Freedom Foundation’s adaptive sports and wellness fair will include wellness resources, community organizations, live music, games and more at Marine Stadium (5413 Appian Way). RSVP on Eventbrite. Free.
Ambitious Record Fair: 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Vinyl junkies are invited to come through, grab a brew and dig through crates for musical gems from 10 local vendors during Collecting Dust’s event at Ambitious Ales (4019 Atlantic Ave.). Free.
Flow + Connect: 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Join Queer Scouts LB and SOFT / EVEN / STILL for an evening class that combines yoga, socializing and environmental unwinding at Recreation Park (4900 E. Seventh St.); RSVP for the exact location. Participants are encouraged to bring mats, blankets, towels, water, sun protection and anything else needed to be comfortable. A limited amount of props and extra mats will be available. Tickets range from $1-$10 on a sliding scale, but nobody will be turned away due to lack of funds.
Moonlight Mash: 8 p.m. A new full moon means time for another themed bike ride from Moonlight Mash Long Beach. This month’s event, inspired by the brutal summer heat waves, is centered on the post-apocalyptic film “Mad Max: Fury Road,” with participants encouraged to come in costume. Riders will meet at 7:45 p.m. at The Bikestation (223 E. First St.) and roll out at 8 p.m. Following the ride, cyclists are welcome to hang out at The Stave Bar (170 The Promenade North). Free.

Caminamos Juntas: 10 a.m. Long Beach Walking Club and Amigas y Más Social have organized a Hispanic Heritage walk and community picnic at Colorado Lagoon (5119 E. Colorado St.). This event will celebrate movement, culture, womanhood and community with a bedazzling bar, friendship bracelets, music and more. Plus, those who want to sign up as a braid model will receive free braids from Trenzas Amigas. Model check-in is at 9 a.m. and general check-in is at 10 a.m. Must be 18 years or older to attend. Bus Fest: Noon to 3 p.m. As part of SoCal Transit Month, Move LA, Car-Lite Long Beach and the City of Long Beach are inviting transit lovers to get up close and personal with a lineup of bus displays and exclusive tours at Monty’s Dog Beach (5000 E. Ocean Blvd.) featuring vehicles from transit agencies all over Southern California. Free.
Hispanic Heritage Fiesta: Noon to 6 p.m. This night market will bring together dozens of local artists and makers at Long Beach City College (6400 E. Pacific Coast Highway), as well as folklorico performances, face painting, pet portraits, Latin DJs, photo opportunities and more. Free.
Long Beach Community Resilience Lab: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Long Beach Community Table is launching their resilience lab, teaching families and neighborhoods how to become more resilient with a series of workshops at their headquarters (151 W. Victoria St.). This week’s themes include an intro to community preparedness, canning and dehydrating food. Free.
Block Party: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Care Culture Collaborative is hosting a block party for the community at First Street and Cherry Avenue, with free food, tarot readings, haircuts, kids’ activities, arts and crafts, drag queens, live music, community programming and local resources on display. Residents can also learn about the No Olympics LA Coalition and how to join. Free.
Ohmega Hi-Fi Takeover: 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Good Luck Vinyl Club presents an Ohmega Hi-Fi Takeover, featuring record collectors Jesse Martinez from Cozmic Sound and Joel Gomez. Grab a drink, eat dinner and get ready for Afro-Latin, Funk, Cumbia, Soul and a variety of other musical genres at 2105 E. Fourth Street. Free.
Live from Laurel Canyon: Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young: 3 p.m. Head over to the Carpenter Center (6200 E Atherton St.) as they host an unforgettable afternoon of music from folk rock supergroup Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. The band will play hit songs such as “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes,” “Teach Your Children” and “Helplessly Hoping.” Tickets are on sale for $55 online.
Monday 9/28
Spookeasy: 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Enjoy a haunting mini tour of the Queen Mary (1126 Queens Highway) with a bloody cocktail in hand. Visitors will receive a complimentary welcome drink and conclude their tour in the ship’s No. 3 Speakeasy, where they’ll receive a crystal reading, palm reading and a sound bath. Tickets are $39 online, with entry times at 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
South Coast Orchid Society: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Expert orchid grower Tim Culbertson will present “Masdevallias You Can Actually Grow,” a program about rare flowers from Central and South America, during the South Coast Orchid Society’s meeting at Whaley Park Community Center (5620 E. Atherton St.). Attendees can learn about and see the hybrid masdevallias Culbertson has been working on, as well as orchids grown by orchid society members. Free.

Social + Resource Fair: 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Black Lives Matter Long Beach’s Black Neighborhood Tenant Council will celebrate the end of summer with a laid-back evening at BLU Art & Wellness Gallery (580 Pine Ave.). Visitors can check out food, live music by A DJ Named President, a book exchange, a community resource fair and volunteer and campaign sign-ups. RSVP at blmlongbeach.org/rsvp. Free.
Metal Trivia: 8 p.m. In addition to its horror trivia series, The 4th Horseman (121 W. Fourth St.) has announced a regular metal trivia night, slated for the last Tuesday of each month. Music fans who are 21 and older are invited to come by and test their skills at this event hosted by @modernmousejosh and @nocturnaldollie. Free.

Elotería Festival: 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Burnett Neighborhood Library (560 E. Hill St.) is hosting a family-friendly lotería session with prizes, an exquisite bar and a display showcasing the history and cultural significance of maíz throughout the Americas. Free.
Tinashe Meet & Greet Photo Op: 5 p.m. To celebrate the release of her new album “Popstar,” singer Tinashe will stop by Fingerprints Music (3811 Atlantic Ave.) to meet fans and take photos. To attend, pre-order “Popstar” on CD ($17) or vinyl ($36) from the Fingerprints website.
Words That Build: 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Five emerging poets and graduates of the Do Good Daniels Family Foundation’s Words That Build cohort will perform their original work at the Do Good Hub (941 E. Pacific Coast Highway, Ste. 101). There is a $25 suggested donation, but entry will be available on a pay-what-you-can scale from $0 to $100.

Author Talk with Veronica Roth: 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Hear from the author Veronica Roth, creator of the “Divergent” book series, during this virtual conversation from the Long Beach Public Library (LBPL). The event will cover the continuing influence and legacy of “Divergent,” plus attendees will get a sneak peek of her upcoming novel, The Sixth Faction. Book Vibe Book Club: ‘Solito’: 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. As part of LBPL’s ongoing Vida Latina series, Book Vibe’s upcoming event at Burnett Neighborhood Library (560 E. Hill St.) will center on “Solito: A Memoir,” covering the story of Javier Zamora’s childhood migratory journey from El Salvador to the United States. All are welcome, even those who haven’t finished the book, to discuss “Solito” as well as themes of migration, memory, family and belonging, and enjoy a book-inspired mocktail. Free.
