With the extra hour from daylight savings on Sunday, residents can fill their time with things to do in Long Beach and Signal Hill.

Artful gatherings abound this week, beginning with a meditative nesting doll project Friday night at the Art Spot, Cal State Long Beach’s family museum day Saturday, a poetry night Monday at Work Evolution Laboratories or a weekly crochet club meeting Wednesday evening.

Residents who want their hands caked with dirt rather than paint can help out at a Willow Springs Park restoration day Friday afternoon, a kid-friendly gardening day with Ground Education Saturday morning or an early morning bird walk at Ranchos Los Cerritos Thursday.

Community-centric events this week include a celebration for two legacy businesses closing their doors in Downtown Long Beach, a kid’s spelling bee Sunday afternoon and a Signal Hill historical talk Thursday evening.
