Things to do in Long Beach: Museum exhibits, outdoor concerts, movies in the park and more!

There’s another week of warm summer days ahead, and there’s plenty of events to enjoy outdoors, including an eco-conscious celebration on Saturday, skating session on Sunday and a bevy of concerts and movie screenings in local parks.

Dog lovers can practice asanas with their pups on Friday morning, and take them to receive discounted healthcare on Monday. Art lovers can check out the opening of a new exhibit on Saturday, or visit the Long Beach Museum of Art after hours on Thursday.

Friday 7/19

Dog Yoga & Fun: 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friendly dogs and their humans are invited to practice different asanas together at Signal Hill Park (2175 Cherry Ave.). This event is appropriate for humans over the age of 18. Free.

Runners’ Welcome: 3 p.m. Local Indigenous rights group, Friends of Puvungna, invites the public to welcome Indigenous runners participating in the annual long-distance Peace & Dignity Run. Attendees are asked to bring their own chair, a potluck-style dish to share and their own water bottle. Everyone will meet in the G2 parking lot at Cal State Long Beach. Free.

Saturday 7/20

Movies n’ Books Club: 11 a.m. This monthly book club will be watching the film adaptation of the novel “The Graduate” at the Art Theatre of Long Beach (2025 E Fourth St.). There will be a discussion of the book and film held after the screening. Tickets can be purchased on the theater’s website.

Anti-Incineration Celebration: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. East Yard Communities for Environmental Justice will be holding a community celebration at Hudson Park (2335 Webster Ave.) to commemorate the closure of the local trash incineration center. There will be food, activities and more. Free.

Opening Exhibit: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The public is invited to view a collection of photographs that showcase various different cultures at local camera store Relics (1105 E Third St.). Free admission.

Sunday 7/21

Plant Art: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Plantiitas (2011 E Fourth St.) will be hosting a workshop where participants will learn to draw still-lifes of plants. Tickets can be purchased at bit.ly/plant-drawing. Part of the proceeds will be donated to help Palestinian artist Osama Hussein and his family evacuate from Gaza.

Skating Sessions: 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. LGBTQ+ women and people of color are invited by Devotion Fitness to learn how to skate at 1545 W 31st St. This event is aimed at those between 18 to 26 years old. To register, visit the City’s online event calendar. Free.

Monday 7/22

Low-Cost Vaccine Clinic: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Long Beach Animal Care Services (7700 E Spring St.) and Community Animal Medicine Project will be providing vaccines and services to pets at discounted prices. Services include microchipping, tapeworm treatment, nail trimming, flea/tick treatment and more. All dogs must be on a leash, and all cats should be in a carrier. For more information, call 562-570-7387. Prices will vary.

Spanish Storytime: 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Children of all ages will be able to enjoy Spanish stories read by library staff at the Signal Hill Public Library (1800 E Hill St.). Free.

Concerts in the Park(ing Lot): 6:30 p.m. Local band Seville and The Ohio Trio will play at the Bixby Joe Coffee & Tea parking lot (4245 Atlantic Ave.). Attendees are invited to bring their own lawn chairs, food from surrounding eateries and friendly dogs. Free.

Movie in the Park: 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. The public is invited to an outdoor screening of the 2001 animated film “Monsters Inc.” at El Dorado Park West (2800 N Studebaker Road). Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, blanket and picnic food. They are also encouraged to wear fun or unusual socks. The movie will begin at dusk. Free.

Tuesday 7/23

Concert in the Park: 6:30 p.m. The Long Beach Municipal Band will be performing a series of jazz, pop and patriotic songs at Bixby Annex Park (Intersection of Cherry Ave. & Ocean Blvd.). Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, blanket and picnic food. Free.

Moonlight Movies on the Beach: 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Watch a screening of “The Sandlot” at Granada Beach (5000 E. Ocean Blvd). The event will feature pre-show entertainment from local bands. This screening is part of the summer-long Moonlight Movies at the Beach series. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to sit on. Food trucks will be present. The movie screenings are family-friendly and pet-friendly. Alcohol is prohibited. Free.

Wednesday 7/24

Concert in the Park: 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The Long Beach Municipal Band will be performing a series of jazz, pop and patriotic songs at Los Cerritos Park (3750 Del Mar Ave.). Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, blanket and picnic food. Free.

Concert in the Park: 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The public is invited to listen to local band Knyght Ryder perform at Signal Hill Park (2175 Cherry Ave.). There will also be food trucks, community resources, a photo booth and more. Free.

Movie in the Park: 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. The public is invited to an outdoor screening of the 2001 animated film “Monsters, Inc.” at Whaley Park (5620 Atherton St.). Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, blanket and picnic food. They are also encouraged to wear fun or unusual socks. The movie will begin at dusk. Free.

Thursday 7/25

Job & Resource Fair: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jobseekers can connect with over a dozen companies during this job fair at 6335 Myrtle Ave. Community resources will be available. This event is organized by Goodwill Southern Los Angeles County. Free.

Sunsets at LBMA: 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The Long Beach Museum of Art (2300 E Ocean Blvd.) invites the public to tour its exhibits after-hours. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. There will be half-cost admission for $6.

Summer Concert: 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The public is invited to a lakeside concert by local band Sligo Rags at El Dorado Nature Center (7550 E Spring St.). Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and food. Free.

Movie in the Park: 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. The public is invited to an outdoor screening of the movie “Arthur the King” at Silverado Park (1545 W 31st St.). Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, blanket and picnic food. The movie will begin at dusk. Free.
