As a fitting Veterans Day weekend and following week, residents can volunteer in their communities or take part in plenty of the free and fun things to do in Long Beach and Signal Hill.

Residents who wish to celebrate and honor those who have served in the United States military can attend the annual Long Beach Veterans Day celebration at Houghton Park Saturday. For people wanting to give back to their community, they can help paint a mural at Safe Refuge Saturday, support local businesses at a night market Saturday night or celebrate various cultures at the Aquarium of the Pacific’s Autumn Festival.

To pick up a new skill, Sunday offers a myriad of workshops where residents can learn how to create a macrame plant hanger, how to craft a Native American-style flute or how to organize the perfect holiday charcuterie board.

For a fun way to unwind, the Bamboo Club will host a movie screening of “The Goonies” Sunday night, DiPiazza’s will host a karaoke night Monday, The Brit LB will host a bingo night Tuesday and Alder & Sage will host a book club Thursday.
