This week is full of fun performances, creativity-fueling workshops and free ways to connect with your local community.
Entertainment knows no bounds this week, and residents have their choice between live music or the opening of a new play Friday evening, stand-up comedy nights on Tuesday or Wednesday, or a riveting discussion on medicine, health and journalism Thursday evening.
To unleash creative skills, the Billie Jean King Main Library will be hosting a video editing workshop Saturday, the Museum of Latin American Art will host a watercolor class Sunday morning, PLACE LB will host a vision board workshop Sunday afternoon, the Signal Hill Public Library will teach DIY crafts on Wednesday and Tuttle Cameras is hosting its monthly photo club.
To connect with yourself, new people or your local community, there is a singles party at the Long Beach Beer Lab Friday night, a yoga and sound event Sunday morning, a pizza and brewery crawl Sunday afternoon and the annual State of the City at The Terrace Theater Tuesday night.
Friday 1/10
Live Music: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Local musician Katie McGhie will be performing at Beachwood Brewing & Distilling (3630 Atlantic Ave.). Free admission.
Long Beach Singles Party: 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Join dozens of local singles at the Long Beach Beer Lab (518 West Willow St.) for an evening of mingling. This event is for those 21 and older. The dress code is smart casual. Tickets can be purchased for $15 on Eventbrite.
Live Theater: 8 p.m. The Long Beach Playhouse (5201 E. Anaheim St.) will put on a performance of “Ted Turner and the Last Roundup,” which explores the life of media mogul Ted Turner as he reflects on his achievements as he struggles with a degenerative mental disease in his final days. Tickets can be purchased for $20 on the theater’s website or at the box office.

Free Groceries: 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Residents can receive free groceries on the second and fourth Saturday of every month at Grace Memorial Baptist Church (1021 E. 19th St.). Free.
Westside Long Beach Economic and Market Study: 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Residents, business owners and stakeholders are invited to Silverado Park (1545 W. 31st St.) to learn about current market conditions and share ideas on strategies for economic development and investment in West Long Beach. Free.
LA Wildfires Donation Drive: Noon to 11 p.m. Trademark Brewing (233 E Anaheim St.) will be hosting an all-day donation drive to help those who are affected by the fires in Los Angeles. Those who bring something from the list of suggested donations will receive their first drink for $5.
Architectural Walking Tour: 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Join local nonprofit Long Beach Heritage for this exploration of architecture in the East Village Arts District. The tour features Victorian cottages, luxury apartments and buildings from the post-WWII era, with stops including the Royal Hotel, Lafayette Complex, Broadlind Hotel, Cooper Arms and Artaban. The walking tour begins at the Linden Avenue entrance to the Cooper Arms Condominiums (19 Linden Ave.) and covers approximately 1.5 miles. This event is held on the second Saturday of each month. Tickets can be purchased online for $15.
Video Editing Workshop: 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Learn the basics of digital video editing using Pikimov, a free, beginner-friendly online app, in this hands-on workshop at the Billie Jean King Main Library (200 W. Broadway). Participants will explore tools such as keyframes, green screen keying, transitions, text/subtitles and effects. This event is appropriate for ages 12 and up. Free.
Speed Dating: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Singles between the ages of 25 and 39 are invited to connect with potential matches at The Wicked Wolf (2332 Pacific Ave.). Tickets can be purchased for $40.20 on Eventbrite.

Corner Garden Workshop: 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Get creative during this hands-on workshop at the Museum of Latin American Art (628 Alamitos Ave.), where participants will explore watercolor pencil techniques. All materials will be provided. Tickets can be purchased for $5 on the museum’s website.
Yoga & Sound: 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Practice asanas while listening to calming sounds during this event at Altar Society Brewing and Coffee Co. (230 Pine Ave.). Long Beach Pizza & Brewery Crawl: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Embark on a tour of some of Long Beach’s best breweries and pizzerias. This guided crawl starts at Altar Society Brewing & Coffee Co. (230 Pine Ave.) and includes stops at Ten Mile Brewing, Thunderbolt Pizza, Ambitious Ales and the Long Beach Beer Lab. Enjoy craft beer, pizza, a party bus and exclusive tastings. Vision Board Workshop: Noon to 4 p.m. Start your year off with clear intentions by creating a vision board at PLACE LB (2172 Pacific Ave.). This event is open to all ages, and materials will be provided, but attendees are welcome to bring their own supplies such as washi tape, stickers, markers, photos and more. Free.

Spanish Storytime: 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Children of all ages can enjoy Spanish stories read by library staff at the Signal Hill Public Library (1800 E Hill St.). Free.
Cosmic Comedy LBC: 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Enjoy a live stand-up performance by comedian Jann Karam at local restaurant Jade on the Water (6380 E. Pacific Coast Hwy.). No cover charge.
Tuesday 1/14
State of the City: 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Residents can learn about the City’s plans for the upcoming year at the annual State of the City at The Terrace Theater (300 E. Ocean Blvd.). The event is deemed a celebration of Long Beach’s roots, rhythms and community, and will include special guest reveals, live performances and a preview of the 2025 Vans Warped Tour. Free, but an online RSVP is required.
English Conversation Club: 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. English language learners are invited to practice English conversations together at the Burnett Neighborhood Library (560 E Hill St.). This is an informal gathering and a safe space for anyone trying to learn English. Free.
Mahjongg: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Come play mahjongg at The Wicked Wolf (2332 Pacific Ave.). All skill levels are welcome. A quick introduction to American Mahjongg will be given at the start of the event, including tips and wisdom for those eager to learn or improve. Free to attend.

Coffee With a Cop: 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The public is invited to meet and have coffee with their local police officers from the South Division at Coffee Station (440 Pine Ave.). Free to attend.

Fiber Club: 4:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Teens and young adults are invited to a crafting meetup at the Billie Jean King Main Library (200 W. Broadway). Materials such as yarn, crochet hooks and knitting needles will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own supplies. This event is appropriate for those 13 and older. All experience levels are welcome. Free.

Monthly Photo Club: 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Local photography enthusiasts can share images with one another and learn new techniques at Tuttle Cameras (5467 E. Carson St.) on the second Thursday of each month. This month’s theme for photos is “smiles.” Free to attend.
Distinguished Speaker Series: 7:30 p.m. Join CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta at the Long Beach Terrace Theater (300 E. Ocean Blvd.) as he discusses medicine, health and journalism. Tickets can be purchased on the Distinguished Speaker’s Series website starting at $240.
