Summer is creeping around the corner, with graduation prep, gardening parties and outdoor activities throughout Signal Hill and Long Beach.

Plant parties are in the spotlight this week, including a gardening get together for seniors Friday morning at Houghton Park, a harvest and gardening event at the Peace Community Garden Saturday morning and a chance to buy and trade rare plants Saturday at Plantiitas.

If you’re looking to help those in need of a helping hand, there are plenty of opportunities for people in the community. Long Beach is hosting its third drive thru donation event Saturday morning, Plantiitas is hosting a queer prom to help raise funds for a local resident to receive top surgery and Running for the Rescues is hosting an event to raise money for homeless pets.

The city has a number of art-focused events as well, including a patchwork show, zine fest, graduation cap decorating and workshops for children.
