Long Beach offers a variety of events this week for community members and their families, ranging from festive holiday activities and hands-on workshops to cultural celebrations, volunteer opportunities and informative public meetings.
The Chrysanthemum Festival at CSULB’s Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden will offer visitors a chance to enjoy beautiful flowers alongside music, crafts and Japanese cultural activities. Meanwhile, Salvi Fest at Shoreline Park will honor Salvadoran heritage with live music, traditional foods, interactive games and a vendor marketplace.
Volunteers are needed to help out at the Great Tryke Giveaway at Bancroft Middle School on Saturday, where children with disabilities will receive adaptive tricycles. Later that same day, the Waves of Ability Adaptive Sports Fair at Marine Stadium will showcase adaptive sports demonstrations, wellness activities and entertainment for people of all ages and abilities.
On Thursday, families can stop by the Harte Neighborhood Library for a free holiday photo shoot and create seasonal crafts perfect for gifting. Community members can also visit the Billie Jean King Main Library to design and laser-cut their own holiday cards.

Friday 11/7
Silent Disco: 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Dance in the moonlight during this silent disco on the bow of the Queen Mary (1126 Queens Hwy.). Guests will receive wireless headphones that can switch between three DJ-curated music channels featuring pop, EDM and classic hits. Tickets can be purchased on the Queen Mary’s website for $21.20.
Film on 16mm: 10 p.m. The Art Theatre of Long Beach (2025 E. Fourth St.) presents the 1988 classic musical “Hairspray!” on a rare film print for one night only. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online or at the door.

Saturday 11/8
Volunteer Opportunity: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers are invited to join the Los Angeles Trial Lawyers’ Charities (LATLC) and the Orange County Trial Lawyers’ Charities (OCTLC) at Bancroft Middle School (5301 E. Centralia St.) for the 2025 Great Tryke Giveaway. This community service event celebrates children receiving new adaptive tricycles and offers volunteers the chance to help assemble 1,000 toiletry kits for individuals experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles and Orange counties. Those interested in volunteering can sign up on the LATLC website.
Waves of Ability – Adaptive Sports Fair: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The public is invited to Marine Stadium (5255 E Paoli Way) for an event spotlighting adaptive sports, featuring sports demonstrations, live performances, wellness booths, health services, vendors, food trucks and more. People of all abilities and ages are welcome. Free.
Chrysanthemum Festival: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The public is invited to celebrate the beauty of the chrysanthemum in the Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden (1250 Bellflower Blvd.) on the CSULB campus. Guests can appreciate the flowers while enjoying music, crafts and cultural activities that highlight Japanese traditions. Parking is free in Lot G4. Admission is $10, and can be purchased on the university’s website.
Art Supply Swap and Craft: Hosted by Daisy Made and BYO Long Beach, this gathering for creatives encourages community sharing, where people can share their resources, receive new gently used supplies and create something together at 425 E. First St. Free.
Mini Zinemaking: 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. People of all ages and experience are invited to make mini zines at the Museum of Latin American Art’s mini zinemaking station (628 Alamitos Ave.). All supplies will be provided. Free.

Sunday 11/9
Free Groceries: 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Long Beach Community Table will be visiting parks throughout Long Beach with free groceries on the following schedule: 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at Silverado Park; 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Orizaba Park; 1:15 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at MacArthur Park; 2:45 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Bixby Park. These groceries are for anyone in need, no ID or proof of residence required. Free.
Salvi Fest: Noon to 10 p.m. Celebrate Salvadoran culture, music and cuisine at Shoreline Park (200 Aquarium Way) during this family-friendly festival. Attendees can enjoy live performances from Salvadoran artists, food trucks with traditional dishes, interactive games, a vendor marketplace and cultural activities. General admission is free.
Hand-stitched Journal Making: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Make your own journal, with a printed cover of your choice at this workshop at PLACE LB (2172 Pacific Ave.). All materials will be provided, and walk-ins are welcome. There is a suggested donation of $8.88, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Live Music: 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Music lovers over the age of 21 are invited to a live performance featuring Lightnin’ Luke, Swingin’ Johnny, and Kassage at The 4th Horseman (121 W. Fourth St.). Doors open at 2:30 p.m. Free admission.

Monday 11/10
Printmaking Mondays: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. This beginner-friendly space invites all people to create what their heart desires, with all supplies provided by PLACE LB (2172 Pacific Ave.). This is a pay-what-you-can event, and no one will be turned away due to lack of funds, but there is a suggested donation of $1-5.
No Pulp Poetry Club: 8:30 p.m. Local poets are invited to share their work during this open mic night at Recreational Coffee (237 Long Beach Blvd., Suite A). Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Free admission.

Tuesday 11/11
Low-Cost Vaccine Clinic: 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Long Beach Animal Care Services (7700 E Spring St.) will be offering discounted vaccines and microchips for pets. Cats must be brought in carriers and dogs must be leashed. Services are available on a first-come, first-served basis for the first 60 pets. Treatment prices vary.
Little Aviators: 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Families are invited to the Hangar Lawn at Long Beach Exchange (4150 McGowen St.) for this month’s kids club celebrating Native American Heritage Month. The event will feature themed entertainment and crafts for children. Admission is free, but registration is encouraged to ensure enough supplies for all participants. Veterans Day Celebration: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The public is invited aboard the Queen Mary (1126 Queens Hwy.) for a special Veterans Day celebration honoring our nation’s fighters. Preschool Discovery Hour: Noon to 1 p.m. Children ages 3 to 5 and their caregivers are invited to learn as they play together at Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library (5870 Atlantic Ave.). Kids will explore new concepts through fun, hands-on activities. Free.
Teen Café: 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Teens ages 13 to 18 are invited to the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library (5870 Atlantic Ave.) to create their own autumn-themed lanterns. All materials will be provided, but supplies are limited. Free.
Planning for Housing Open House: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The public can learn about the City of Long Beach’s efforts to increase housing supply, access and affordability during this open house at Billie Jean King Main Library (200 W. Broadway). City staff will be available to answer questions and collect community feedback. Free.
Marine Debris and Trash Capture System Community Meeting: 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend a virtual community meeting hosted by the City of Long Beach Department of Public Works to learn about an initiative that aims to reduce pollution in local waterways and coastal areas by exploring technologies that intercept trash in the lower Los Angeles River before it reaches the ocean. City staff and project consultants will provide an overview of the feasibility study and discuss future steps, including potential system locations, design, permitting, construction and long-term maintenance. Participants will have the opportunity to share concerns and ask questions about trash and pollution in the river. Design for Longevity – ADUs and Aging in Place Panel: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The public is invited to Studio One Eleven (245 E. Hosted by the DTLB Design District and author Lili Weigert, the event will feature insights from Weigert’s new book “Making Space: ADUs for Modern Living” and a panel with stakeholders. Laser Cut Holiday Pop Up Cards: 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The public is invited to design and create laser-cut holiday pop-up cards at Billie Jean King Main Library (200 W. Broadway). Participants will use Canva to design their cards, cut them on colored cardstock using the library’s laser cutter, and assemble their finished creations. All materials will be provided. This event is appropriate for adults and kids over the age of 12. Free.
Fiber Club: 4:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Teens and young adults are invited to a crafting meetup at the Billie Jean King Main Library (200 W. Broadway). Attendees can work on their knitting, crocheting or other fiber arts projects. Materials such as yarn, crochet hooks and knitting needles will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own supplies. This event is appropriate for those 13 and older. All experience levels are welcome. Free.
