Police announced Wednesday that two additional men were in custody in the shooting death of a 46-year-old homeless man in Long Beach.
Long Beach Police Department officers on patrol found Abelardo Ramirez Bonilla with gunshot wounds to his head in a parked car on Dec. 21, 2021, in the area of 72nd Street and Atlantic Place, according to LBPD Lt. Joe Flores.
Firefighters pronounced Bonilla dead at the scene.
Detectives investigated the shooting and identified Luis Barrios, 54, as the alleged shooter. He was arrested during a traffic stop a few days after the shooting.
An ongoing investigation led the LBPD to identify two additional suspects in the shooting, Leonel Zapien Martinez and Eleazar Lopez. Martinez, 32, had been in custody since March on an unrelated offense, while Lopez, 34, was arrested Tuesday in Downey.
Barrios and Martinez were each booked on one count of murder, while Lopez was booked on one count of conspiracy to commit murder. Barrios’ bail was set at $2.05 million, while Martinez and Lopez had their bail set at $2 million.
“While the motive remains under investigation, detectives believe the murder resulted from an ongoing personal dispute between the victim and the three suspects,” the LBPD reported.
Anyone with information about the death was asked to contact the LBPD at 562-570-7244. Anonymous tips can be called in to Crime Stoppers at 800-222- 8477 or submitted online at lacrimestoppers.org.
