Alright, readers. This is the final week of our Sweetheart Sweepstakes. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to win one of 13 fabulous prizes. Last week we had listed just twelve— but have added an extra— Italian Bliss for Two— courtesy of Leah Farris of Donato’s Hair Salon, Dave Smith of Catalano’s Pizza, and Vic Warren from Long Beach Shakespeare’s Goad Theatre. See pages 10 and 11 for details on rules and a full listing of the prizes. We will be picking up the boxes next Tuesday and will announce the winners next week. Good luck to all our entrants!
Also on our radar is the upcoming Signal Hill City Council race. There are three available seats with four folks running— three incumbents and one challenger. A great way to meet the candidates will be at the Signal Hill Chamber of Commerce’s monthly mixer at Ristorante daVinci, 2801 E. Spring St. to be held Wednesday, February 11 at 5:30pm. All candidates for Signal Hill office have been invited to attend the event. Join the members and candidates on daVinci’s heated patio overlooking the Long Beach Airport and enjoy complimentary appetizers courtesy of Dave Neary, managing partner, and Wendy Parker, director of catering.
Speaking of the Signal Hill Chamber of Commerce…they tell us they have a new website— www.signalhillchamber.com. Check it out and let them know what you think.
Another event to put on your calendar is the Signal Hill Candidate’s forum set for Thursday, February 19 at 6:30pm at the Signal Hill City Council Chambers, 2175 Cherry Avenue. Sponsored by the Concerned Citizens of Signal Hill (CCSH) and the Signal Tribune, the forum will give voters the opportunity to not only meet the candidates, but also give the candidates a chance to answer written questions posed to them by audience members. Gary Dudley of CCSH will act as moderator and my dear husband Steve will be the timekeeper. The evening will start with a 6:30pm meet-and-greet with refreshments followed at 7pm by the actual forum. Please call me at the Signal Tribune at (562) 427-8678 for details.

Have a good week— and don’t forget to buy your Valentine gifts locally!
