There is so much happening in our area that we had a tough time fitting it all in this edition. Saving my column for the last minute is sometimes a good thing— as we need this space for last-minute announcements, reminders and whatnot.

Top on my list is a note for Signal Hill residents— don’t forget to attend the candidates forum tonight at Signal Hill City Hall. The event is co-sponsored by the Signal Tribune and Concerned Citizens of Signal Hill— better known as CCSH. A mixer with refreshments will take place at 6:30pm with the actual forum starting at 7pm. This is a marvelous opportunity to get to know the four candidates running for the three open seats. Your written questions are needed to help us query the candidates. Gary Dudley of CCSH will act as moderator and Steve Strichart will be the timekeeper. A big thanks in advance to Roumel Bet-Varda of It’s a Grind Coffee House in Signal Hill for the complimentary coffee.

Most of the Sweetheart Sweepstakes winners have picked up their prizes. They all seem so tickled to have won. Next week I’ll give a bit more info on the details of this year’s contest.

Yesterday morning I received an email from Bob Kalowes— a voice from the past. I haven’t heard from him since he worked for a real estate agency in Bixby Knolls. At one time, he and my husband were co-workers (officers) at the Long Beach Police Department. The opening line of his email read as follows: “Neena, publish this announcement and I will pray for Steve’s enlightenment.”
I couldn’t resist such an offer, so here it is!

The Knights of Columbus, Council #3449, are pleased to announce their Annual Fish Fry at St. Barnabas Parish Hall, 3955 Orange Avenue, Long Beach. The fare is $8 for seniors, $9 for adults and $5 for children (mac & cheese available). The dinner is hosted by Knights of Columbus members and all profits will go to support the church school and religious education programs. There will be raffle prizes offered each night, with a Grand Prize of a one-week stay at a Hawaiian condo. All are welcomed. All right, Bob, there it is— now PAY UP!
