Thoughts from the Publisher

By Neena Strichart

I can’t believe it is March already. I suppose the older I get the faster time will fly.
Big happenings in Signal Hill this week— after Tuesday night’s election, it looks like the incumbents will remain in their seats and will soon decide on a new mayor to fill out the next one-year term. The public is invited to the new mayor’s reception March 17 at the Community Center immediately following that evening’s council meeting— where the new mayor will be named. It’s a wonderful party.

Since my column ran last week, we have received a number of voluntary subscriptions and donations/monetary gifts in celebration of our nine-year anniversary. It has been so touching to read the heart-felt notes attached to the checks— we’ll run a few of them next week in our “Letters to the Editor” section. It is such a good feeling to know that readers appreciate us all over our distribution area— Wrigley Heights, Signal Hill, Bixby Knolls, California Heights and Los Cerritos. We work hard to bring real news to those areas and do all we can to help the small businesses— especially during these rotten economic times. We’re glad you’re happy with us.

Our subsidiary business, Claim Finders, is working away to help find unclaimed property for our clients. We recently uncovered more than $1,000 for one of our vendors, $6,000-plus for a former Long Beach City Council member, nearly $10,000 for one of our advertisers, and almost $700 for Steve’s friend from high school days. Now I don’t want you to think that all of our finds are for big bucks— we’ve found a few that added up to much than $100. Nevertheless, found money is a blessing during this recession (or whatever you want to call it). Give us a call to make an appointment for us to search for your hidden treasure! (562) 427-8678.
