Today is the beginning of our switch from Thursday to Friday publication and delivery.
We hope the change works well for all of us. Those we’ve talked to seem pleased with the thought of Friday delivery— enjoy.
Below is a note I received from our 8th District Council member Rae Gabelich— she’s a funny gal:
Thank goodness there’s a name for this disorder I’ve developed. Somehow I feel better, knowing what it’s called! Recently, I was diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D.— Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder. This is how it manifests: I go to water my garden. As I turn on the hose I look over at my car and decide it needs washing. I start toward the garage and notice mail on the porch table that I brought up earlier. I go through the mail before I wash the car. I lay my car keys on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can and notice that it is full.
So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first. Then I think, since I’m going to be near the mailbox when I take out the garbage, I may as well pay the bills first. I take my checkbook off the table and see that there is only one check left. My extra checks are in my desk, so I go inside to my desk where I find the cup of coffee I’d been drinking. I go to look for my checks, but first need to push the coffee aside so that I don’t knock it over. The coffee is getting cold, so I decide to microwave it. As I head toward the kitchen with the coffee, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye— they need water.
I put the coffee on the counter and find my reading glasses that I’ve looked for all morning. I decide to put them back on my desk, but first I’m going to water the flowers. I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a watering can and suddenly spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the kitchen table. I realize that when we go to watch TV later I’ll be looking for the remote, but am afraid I won’t remember where it is, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I’ll water the flowers. I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor. So, I set the remote back on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill. Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do. At the end of the day: the car isn’t washed, the bills aren’t paid, there is a cold cup of coffee sitting on the counter, the flowers don’t have enough water, I can’t find the remote or my glasses, and I don’t remember what I did with the car keys. Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I’m really baffled because I know I was busy all day, and I’m really tired. I realize this is a serious problem, and I’ll try to get some help for it, but first I’ll check my email.
Yours truly.
Rae
Now for more good news! Grandma Darlings in Signal Hill is having a parking lot sale this Saturday— see page 5 of this week’s issue for details. The reason I’m putting this information in my column is three-fold.
First of all, I know that many of our readers have been saddened by the closing of Sweet Treasures Home (STH) in Bixby Knolls. and I want to let you all know that Monique of STH will be participating in the sale. She promises to have lots of great bargains. Secondly, my friend Kathy (aka Miss Kitty Girl) will also be displaying and selling her wares on Saturday. Kathy makes the most decadent home-crafted soap I’ve ever experienced. Heck, even Steve enjoys it but prefers her more manly scented soaps to my favorites jasmine and lavender.
I’ve known Kathy for more than ten years now. We met while we were advertising sales representatives for the Press-Telegram. Over the past decade I have found her to be a smart gal with lots of talent and a special knack for creating delightful bath products. Some of our long-time readers may remember when Kathy wrote her column “Kathy’s Computer Corner.” We miss her writings, but understand that she’s busy being an entrepreneur!
Third, and finally, I am touting the parking lot sale because I will be sharing a booth with Kathy. What am I selling? I have collected vintage things and stuff for years with the thought of opening a little shop after I retire. With the years flying by, my house filling up around me, and no plans to retire, I have decided now is the time to share my treasures with others. Stop by and see us— it should be great fun.
