Thoughts from the Publisher | June 24

Sometimes the rudeness takes the form of a nasty hand gesture or a terse remark regarding our driving, appearance or some other situation that is really none of that person’s business.
I recently read of such a situation posted on the Facebook account of my friend
Judy Seal. Judy is a beautiful lady with a heart as big as the moon. Her parents were great examples to her, as they were involved in local charities and gave of themselves when they were called upon.
Here is what Judy posted regarding a recent encounter with an ill-mannered individual:
Pumping gas at the 76 station on Santa Fe headed back to the office
Driver behind me: “Has anyone told you that you need to have an age appropriate
hair length?”
[Thought to self] Just what I was waiting to hear. Come on, I’m Scottish. I gotta do what I gotta do.
Me: “Not today, no.” I went back to ignoring him.
Driver: “Well you should cut it off.”
Trying to think of a new response and obviously looking at his pot belly and balding head cuz that’s what I do when I am not so happy, I say, “It isn’t real. My hair isn’t real.”
Driver: “I knew it! I knew it. It looks fantastic. Here’s my card. I hope you call me.”
I left his card in his hand and got into my car.

I wonder what I would have done in the same situation. I would have probably responded with some smartass response. Afterwards, realizing that my feelings were
hurt, I would have gotten in my car, cried all the way home and re-told the story
over and over again, hoping for sympathy and comfort from those listening to my tale of woe. Bless you, Judy, for having a sense of humor and a quick wit. Your parents would have loved this story.
