The Titanic Historical Society, Inc., based in Indian Orchard, Massachusetts, will hold its 45th Anniversary Convention aboard the Queen Mary April 3-5. The three-day event will include presentations by a number of prominent maritime historians, artists, and others, as well as an historic Los Angeles bus tour, and a number of social events.
The keynote speaker during the Saturday night banquet will be Ken Marschall, who is globally recognized as the world’s leading Titanic artist. His works are represented in many notable collections including the National Geographic Society and the National Portrait Gallery, and his Titanic paintings have appeared in numerous books and on the covers of both Time and Life magazines.
The artist’s haunting work in the best-selling book Titanic: An Illustrated History inspired writer/director James Cameron, and its influence can be seen throughout Cameron’s film Titanic. Marschall’s familiarity with the ship’s every detail earned him Cameron’s choice for visual historian on both that film and his astonishing 3-D large-format movie Ghosts of the Abyss.
There will also be presentations by a number of other prominent Titanic, Queen Mary, and other maritime historians, model makers and artists. Membership is open to all; convention is open to members. For more information, visit www.titanichistoricalsociety.org.
