The Signal Hill City Council recognized the Signal Hill Chapter of Toastmasters Gavel Club International for their achievements and declared February Toastmasters Month. The proclamation was accepted by Toastmaster Gavel Club district governor Roger Cota at the council meeting Tuesday, Feb. 26.
“The Gavel Club hopes this honor will encourage the public to visit the club and see what it can do for them,” said public relations vice president Mary Mackey. Mackey, and other members of the Gavel Club were also in attendance.
Toastmasters Gavel Club is a public speaking organization that assists people in getting more comfortable with public speaking and encourages leadership skills. Its Signal Hill chapter has been active for more than 70 years. The club meets every Monday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Schaier’s Nissan, located at 1800 East Spring Street in Signal Hill.
