A Long Beach transit bus and another vehicle collided Thursday, sending both careening into a seafood restaurant and injuring more than a dozen people.
The crash occurred around 3:15 p.m. in the area of South Street and California Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
There was little initial information on what led to the crash, but Long Beach Fire Department officials said 14 people required medical attention, with 10 taken to hospitals in unknown condition. Long Beach police said the patients’ conditions ranged from minor to critical-but-stable.
The vehicle involved in the crash appeared to be largely destroyed, pushed by the front end of the transit bus into the restaurant. It was unclear how many of the injured were in the vehicle, on the bus or in the restaurant.
South Street was closed between Myrtle and Lewis avenues while the investigation was conducted and patients were treated.
