The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) reported two traffic fatalities involving pedestrians in the last week.
On Saturday, Oct. 15, at approximately 10:26pm, police were dispatched to the area of 4th Street and Obispo Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision.
Arriving officers discovered that the collision involved a vehicle and a pedestrian. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded and determined a male adult pedestrian deceased at the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2003 Honda Civic, being driven by a 55-year-old male resident of Long Beach, was traveling east on 4th Street, when it collided into the pedestrian. According to witness statements, the pedestrian was crossing 4th Street at Obispo Avenue in an unmarked crosswalk at the time of the collision. The driver remained at the scene.
The pedestrian is described as a 79-year-old resident of Indio. The Los Angeles County Coroner will positively identify the pedestrian and notify next of kin.

On Wednesday, Oct.19, at approximately 8:15am, police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Pacific Avenue and Broadway regarding another traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
When officers arrived, they assisted Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies with performing CPR on the male adult pedestrian. Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived shortly thereafter and continued life-saving measures. However, due to the major head and body trauma the pedestrian sustained, he was determined deceased at the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 22-year-old resident of Redondo Beach was driving a 2011 Ford Fusion southbound on Pacific Avenue, in the number-two lane. As he approached Broadway on a green light, he struck the pedestrian who was walking westbound in the south crosswalk against a red light.
At press time, the pedestrian is only being identified as a 66-year-old male.
