University By The Sea takes visitors back to school

On Sunday, Oct. 28, Long Beach residents are invited to get a little lesson from their favorite shops on Pine Avenue as University by the Sea takes over downtown Long Beach.
Sponsored by the city and the Downtown Long Beach Associates, University by the Sea is an art, film and culture festival that allows residents and visitors to rediscover downtown Long Beach and its entertainment and dining opportunities.
University by the Sea takes place from noon to 8 p.m. and runs along Pine Avenue, which will be closed from 3rd Street to Broadway. The event will feature approximately 10 indoor restaurants and businesses between 3rd Street and Ocean Boulevard.
Those who attend the festival will have the opportunity to enjoy art exhibits, film showcases, street music, and classes where visitors will have the chance to learn about topics from wine tasting and gourmet food to religion in world politics and architecture.
The films featured at University by the Sea include an international picture showcase, CSULB student films and movies made during the first half of the 20th century, shown inside the historic Jergins Tunnel.
Street dancing, music and cultural performances can be found on the festival’s many stages as well as art exhibits inside Pine Avenue’s restaurants.
