GO-FAME Youth Theatre Company, as part of its participation in the Long Beach Fire Department’s (LBFD) Hug-A-Bear program, will collect new and gently used stuffed animals at all performances of its upcoming production of The Velveteen Rabbit, Jan. 16 through Jan. 23 at Cal State Long Beach’s University Theatre. Each donor will receive a coupon for $5 off the purchase of tickets for future GO-FAME productions, beginning with the musical Barnum in July.
The stuffed animals will be distributed to children in crisis situations, providing comfort and friendship to those in need.
“It’s an honor to be able to participate in this amazing program with the Long Beach Fire Department,” said Kathy McGuire, GO-FAME’s managing director. “Every child deserves a huggable friend to provide security and love just like the Velveteen Rabbit did for her boy, and we’re excited that our upcoming production is the perfect partner to raise awareness and donations for this great cause.”
Recommended for ages 4 and up, The Velveteen Rabbit tells the classic tale of the unique relationship between a lonely boy and his brave stuffed rabbit whose one wish is to become a real rabbit someday.
Performances are at 2pm on Sunday, Jan. 16 and Sunday, Jan. 23 and at 2pm and 7pm on Saturday, Jan. 22. Tickets may be may be purchased online at GO-FAME.org or at the theater box office 30 minutes prior to show time.
