The board of directors for the ArtExchange (ArtX) visual-arts center, 356 E 3rd St., has appointed an advisory board, consisting of seven key community leaders who will serve a one-year term focused on high-level visioning. They represent a diverse group of industries and interests, including art, legal, corporate and nonprofit.
“The ArtExchange is at the edge of the next phase in our organizational development, and the advisory board is an infusion of knowledge, expertise and unique vision to capitalize on our current momentum,” said Nicolassa Galvez, chief executive officer of the ArtExchange. “The advisory board we have assembled is truly exemplary in their individual and combined commitment and experience in arts, leadership, and community. We expect great things from them in this upcoming year."
The Advisory Board will include:
• Joen Garnica— ArtX advisory board chair, Garnica Interiors, Inc.
• Blair Cohn— executive director, Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association
• Michele A. Dobson— attorney, community leader
• Douglas Gastaluem— attorney, artist, business leader
• Jim Lewis— Charis NonProfit Management and Consulting
• Dr. Steven Pakiz, DDS— ArtX board of directors member
• John Thomas— historic preservation consultant
“I believe the Advisory Board demonstrates the increased level of support the community has for the ArtExchange and the desire to have this type of creative, community center bridging Downtown Long Beach and the East Village Arts District. The Advisory Board's advocacy and vision will be vital in guiding the ArtExchange in furthering its objectives," said Joen Garnica, Advisory Board Chair.
On behalf of the Advisory Board, Joen Garnica invites the community to ArtExchange's Third Thursdays on 3rd to meet the Advisory Board and participate in ArtX's monthly community art event.
