This weekend the Wrigley neighborhood is getting eco-friendly as it launches its history-making tree planting.
On Friday, Nov. 2, the volunteers will be sorting, tagging and unloading 150 trees that are to be planted on Saturday, Nov. 3 in the south area of Wrigley area of Long Beach, located north of PCH, south of Burnett, east of Daisy, and west of Pine. The event is sponsored by neighborhood project, Wrigley is Going Green!
Wrigley is Going Green! submitted a matching grant through the Wrigley Association to the Neighborhood Partners Program, which the Long Beach City Council approved. This event is said to benefit the residents and businesses of Wrigley and the city of Long Beach as a whole by improving air quality, keeping homes cool in the summer and preserving the value of properties.
Many local businesses are supporting this event: Buono’s Pizzeria, Pizza Hut, Starbucks, Walgreens, Joe’s Fountain and Plants, Heredia’s Bridal and Party Supply, Hiller Hardwood Floors, Miller and Pass LLC, Puka Bar and War House.
The Wrigley Association is a neighborhood association dedicated to improving the lives in the Wrigley area of Long Beach. The general meetings are held on the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Veteran’s Park Social Hall, located at 101 East 28th Street in Long Beach.
The tree planting will begin Saturday at 9 a.m. at the intersection of Hill Street and Daisy Avenue. Volunteers are still needed and are encouraged to sign up via e-mail at WrigleyIsGoingGreen@hotmail.com.
