Westerly School officially welcomed Chris Rodenhizer as its new head of school this month at an all-school assembly on the first day of classes.
A veteran principal of Long Beach public schools, Rodenhizer brings nine years of school administrative experience and eight years of teaching at the elementary and university levels. He has a bachelor’s degree in the arts, a master’s in educational administration, and California state teaching and administrative credentials.
When asked about what drew him to Westerly School, an independent, non-profit, non-sectarian school, Rodenhizer pointed to the school’s mission. “The role of an independent school is to live its mission,” he said. “The Westerly mission is to develop each child’s full potential intellectually, emotionally, morally and physically.”
Rodenhizer formerly served as principal of Alvarado Elementary School in Signal Hill.
