Where to find a helping hand for Thanksgiving

As high inflation rates continue to rise, some may need a little help putting together a Thanksgiving Day meal for themselves and their families. Below are four charitable distributions that will take place in Long Beach, providing hot meals, uncooked turkeys and groceries.

Saturday, Nov. 19

Diamonds & Turkeys: 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Local Hearts Foundation will be distributing turkeys to families in need at the Homeland Cultural Center (1321 E Anaheim St.). Free.

Thanksgiving Luncheon: 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Seniors 55 and older are invited to the LGBTQ Center of Long Beach (2017 E 4th St.) to enjoy a free Thanksgiving lunch. Registration for this event is required by Nov. 11. To register, email dhernandez@centerlb.org. Free.

Turkey Giveaway: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Imam Ameen Omar Foundation will be distributing uncooked turkeys to 300 families in need at the Masjid Al-Shareef mosque (2104 Orange Ave.). Registration is required as supplies are limited. To register to receive a turkey, email st.julianservices@gmail.com. Free.

Saturday, Nov. 26

Thanksgiving Meal: 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Christian Outreach in Action invites families in need to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. “Blessing bags” containing additional food will be distributed from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Families can also apply to receive a basket containing an entire Thanksgiving meal to take home. To apply for a basket, applicants must visit 1772 Clark Ave. before Nov. 18 and bring IDs for all members of their household. Applicants are not guaranteed a basket. Free.
