This Thanksgiving season, various nonprofits and churches around Long Beach will provide a warm meal or groceries to-go for families in need. Other locations around the city will continue their scheduled food distributions through the end of the year.
According to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, it is estimated that since the pandemic stated 1 in 4 people face food insecurity in Los Angeles County.
Members of the community can find hot meals or food distributions at the following locations:
Wednesday, Nov. 24
Long Beach Rescue Mission
Located at 1430 Pacific Ave., Long Beach Rescue Mission will provide an “Outdoor Dining Experience” from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. for anyone seeking a Thanksgiving meal. No ID is required for the dining experience.
On a daily basis, Long Beach Rescue Mission provides over 650 meals to those in need, according to its website.
Breakfast is provided to residents and overnight guests only, but lunch and dinner are open to the public.
Lunch is served Monday through Thursday at noon, but people are asked to arrive before noon to be served. On Sundays, lunch is served after chapel service around 10:30 a.m.
Dinner is served seven days a week at 6 p.m.
Thursday, Nov. 25
Long Beach Rescue Mission
The following morning, Long Beach Rescue Mission will provide a Thanksgiving breakfast from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. No ID is required for the breakfast.
Day of Gratitude at The LGBTQ Center of Long Beach
Clients of the LGBTQ Center are invited to join staff for a Day of Gratitude meal to-go from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The food and beverage distribution will include turkey or ham, garlic mashed potatoes, stuffing, sauteed vegetables and gravy. The meal will also include a roll and a cookie. Vegan and vegetarian options will also be available. The food was in large part donated by Los Angeles County Board Supervisor Janice Hahn.
The distribution will take place at 2017 E. 4th Street and food can be picked up in front of the building.
Friday, Nov. 26
Long Beach Community Table
The nonprofit organization opens its pantry every Friday from noon to 4 p.m and offers food to anyone in the community. No application, ID or appointment is needed.
The warehouse is located at 9038 Artesia Blvd in Bellflower.
According to Long Beach Community Table’s website, each week the nonprofit distributes over 30,000 lbs of groceries, fresh produce and clothes and more to over 3,000 folks in need.
Sunday, Nov. 28
Urban Community Outreach
A Thanksgiving brunch will be provided this Sunday from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. and is located at 241 Cedar Ave.
A limited amount of blankets will also be available on a first-come-first-served basis this Sunday.
Urban Community Outreach hosts a weekly warm to-go meal and snack bag distribution every Sunday. A small bag containing personal hygiene products is also provided by Urban Community Outreach on a first-come-first-served basis.
Saturday, Dec. 4
New Generations
The nonprofit hosts a food distribution of non-perishable food and other groceries every Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m. while supplies last.
The food distributions are both walk-in and drive-thru events and masks are required.
The Saturday distributions take place at Awaken Ministries located at 2426 Santa Fe Ave.
