Wilmington man killed in Long Beach traffic accident

A Wilmington man was killed in a car accident in Long Beach last week, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).
On Thursday, March 29, at approximately 6:50am, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Judson Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway regarding a two-vehicle injury-traffic collision, which resulted in the death of a male adult.
Upon their arrival, officers located both vehicles in the intersection, with the driver of a 1990 Honda Civic DX having sustained major trauma. Long Beach Fire Department responded and determined that the driver was deceased.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the Civic, driven by a 24-year-old male resident of Wilmington, was traveling in the No. 1 eastbound lane of Pacific Coast Highway approaching Judson Avenue at a high rate of speed.
The Civic, for an unknown reason, locked up brakes and skidded into and collided with a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 pick-up. The truck was driven by a 46-year-old male resident of Long Beach, who was waiting to turn left, onto southbound Judson Avenue from westbound Pacific Coast Highway. The force of the impact caused the truck to be pushed backwards approximately 35 feet.
The identity of the deceased driver is pending notification of the next of kin.
Those who may have witnessed the collision are asked to contact LBPD Collision Investigation Detective Garcia at (562) 570-7355.
