Woman sitting at bus stop succumbs after being struck by drunk driver

On Sunday, Nov. 14, at approximately 11:06pm, officers from the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) responded to an injury-traffic collision at the intersection of Anaheim Street and Elm Avenue that resulted in the death of an adult female.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2003 silver Jaguar driven by Lydia Danita Rector, a 41-year-old Long Beach resident, traveled onto the south sidewalk of Anaheim Street and struck a woman who was sitting at the bus stop.
The victim was transported by fire department personnel to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased. At this time, she is only being identified as a 71-year-old female resident of Long Beach, pending notification to her family.
Rector was arrested for drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, and is currently in custody.
