Your Guide to Back to School Events in Long Beach

As school children return to classes after an unprecedented school year, various Long Beach organizations have put together supply giveaways to support students.

LB Spike City, Local Hearts Foundation and A Future SuperHero and Friends are just some of the local organizations doing giveaways in August.

Saturday, August 14

Education is Power School Supply Giveaway 

The Local Hearts Foundation is hosting its back-to-school “Education is Power School Supply Giveaway” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Over 1,000 backpacks filled with pens, pencils and notebooks will be given to K-12 students.

Amazon tablets donated by street food eatery Dirt Dog will be distributed at random during the event.

Aside from the giveaway, the event will feature face painting, free haircuts for children, fruit distribution and a taco truck.

The Local Hearts event will take place at 1321 E. Anaheim St. in Long Beach. 

Back to School Drive-Thru Event

A Future SuperHero and Friends and Tichenor Clinic for Children are hosting this giveaway that will include a free backpack and school supplies for children 4 years old and up.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is open to all of the community while supplies last. Physical distancing and masks are required.

The giveaway will take place at Tichenor Clinic, 1660 Termino Avenue in Long Beach.

Back to School Supplies Pick Up

Christ the Good Shepherd American Coptic Orthodox Church will be hosting a school supply pick-up from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on a first-come-first-served basis.

The church will be distributing free backpacks, school supplies, and uniforms.

The event will take place at 1535 Gundry Ave in Long Beach.

Friday, August 20

Back to School JAMM

The free community event will be hosted by LB Spike City Volleyball and various other local organizations like Pueblita, Urban Reset and Helpful Homegirls.

Backpacks, school supplies and food will be supplied for all families on a first-come, first-served basis from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Long Beach Library has also donated an assortment of books to be distributed at the event.

The event will take place at 2325 E. 3rd Street in Long Beach. 

Saturday, August 21

Back 2 School JAM

Councilmember Al Austin, Crossroads Church and other local organizations are hosting this back-to-school event at Scherer Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m while supplies last.

The event will feature a backpack giveaway while supplies last, music, games, food, raffles, information booths, haircuts and more!

Saturday, August 28 

Backpack giveaway/ School supplies

A group of local organizations such as the Cultural Alliance of Long Beach and Art Music and Culture will be hosting the giveaway from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Park parking lot, while supplies last.

Face masks and social distancing is required for this event. 

The giveaway will take place at 1119 E. Rhea St. in Long Beach.

Sunday, August 29

Back to School Super Day of Wellness

Equity Through Literacy is hosting this event where the organization aims to encourage self-care and wellness throughout the school year.

The event will feature a backpack giveaway filled with supplies, the distribution of fresh produce, non-perishable food, clothing, shoes, diapers, dental kits, and other activities like workshops and a basketball clinic.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Prior registration is required for the event and can be done by following this link.

Back to School Super Day of Wellness will take place at Cesar Chavez Park, 401 Golden Ave. in Long Beach.
