As we head into the dog days of September and transition to Labor Day, events across Long Beach let you bust a move, create art or celebrate Greek tradition.
The City of Long Beach will host an End of Summer concert on Friday at El Dorado Park West, Long Beach Greek Fest returns Saturday through Monday and Loquat Oysters has its grand opening of their new menu at RetRoll Sushi LBC on Sunday.
Also on Sunday, the Long Beach Coast will play its last regular season game and the Queen Mary hosts Boots on the Boat.
The Art Theatre of Long Beach will screen the original “King Kong” on Labor Day, the City of Long Beach holds its final budget committee meeting Tuesday and cafe and bakery consultant Erica Escalante will teach a barista business class Wednesday.

First Friday Adoption Special: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Take home a furry friend during Long Beach Animal Care Services’ First Friday Adoption Special, located at 7700 E. Spring St. Adoption fees are waived for all adoptable dogs, cats and bunnies. Each adopted pet goes home spayed or neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. Free.
End of Summer Concert: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) will host a free, end-of-year concert featuring Southern California funk, R&B and new jack swing band RemiX at El Dorado Park West (2800 N. Studebaker Road). Pre-concert activities include face painting and games at 5 p.m. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and picnic-style dinners and snacks to enjoy while they watch. Free.
First Fridays Art Walk: 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Enjoy an evening of live music, entertainment and community as the Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association brings back First Fridays. Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with free face painting, build your own bouquet and enjoy live music from Mariachi Los Santaneros outside the Expo Arts Center (4321 Atlantic Ave.). Long Beach Greek Fest: Noon. Enjoy Greek food and music as the Long Beach Greek Festival returns to the Blessed Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church (5761 E Colorado St.). The Church will transform into a seaside Greek village as visitors enjoy an authentic taste of the Mediterranean with traditional food, music, dancing, culture and warm Greek hospitality. The festival will take place from Sept. 5 through Sept. 7, beginning at noon each day. Free parking and continuous shuttle services are available at the Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center parking lot (5901 E Seventh St.). A general one-day pass is $5 per person for ages 6-64. KoaKai Pop-up: Noon to 4 p.m. Shop, hang out and grab some shaved ice as KoaKai’s Shave Ice & Sweets hosts a pop-up at Tattered Trading (5555 E. Stears St., Ste. 106). Check their Instagram (@koakaishaveice) for menu details as the event gets closer. Free.
Long Beach Coast Tailgate: 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Beachwood Distilling (3630 Atlantic Ave.) will help host a Long Beach Coast tailgate with signed giveaways and a Boilermaker drink special for those 21 and older. At 3:15 p.m., Pedal Movement will lead a six-mile bike ride from Beachwood Distilling to the game (4700 Deukmejian Drive). Beachwood will stream the game on the TVs for attendees. Smoke & Oak: 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Head to Promenade Square Park (215 E. First St.) and enjoy unlimited food and whiskey tasting, live music and lounge areas for attendees to relax and connect with Axiom Productions. Los Ángeles Azules: 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. The iconic Mexican cumbia group Los Ángeles Azules will be stopping at the Long Beach Amphitheater (1051 Queens Hwy.) for their celebrated “Cumbia Sin Fronteras Tour.” Tickets range from $70 to $300 on Ticketmaster.
Sunday 9/6
Downtown Draws: 11 a.m. Draw inspired by the art on view, gallery space and downtown Long Beach, hosted by the Long Beach Museum of Art (356 E. Third St.). Creative prompts are provided. Supplies are available to borrow from the front desk. Attendees are welcome to bring their own gallery-safe materials (paper, pencils and colored pencils). Free.
Long Beach Coast vs Modesto Roadsters: 1:05 p.m. Watch the Coast play their final regular season game (4700 Deukmejian Drive) against the Modesto Roadsters for Fan Appreciation Day. Tickets are on sale here, starting at $11.33.
Loquat Oysters Grand Opening: 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Loquat Oysters will begin its three-day residency at RetRoll Sushi LBC (2023 E. Fourth St.) with a grand opening. The menu includes Asian fusion dishes, bites like chargrilled calamari and a variety of raw, dressed and grilled oysters. Free.
Boots on the Boat: 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Bring your cowboy boots and energy onto the Queen Mary (1126 Queens Highway) for an unforgettable night of line dancing. Whether you are a seasoned pro or have never taken a single step, the Queen Mary will have a live instructor to help you spin, kick and glide around the deck. No partner required. No Parking on the Dance Floor: Noon to 7 p.m. Located at Fourth Street and the Cherry Avenue parking lot, Native Sol hosts its eighth annual No Parking on the Dance Floor with a lineup of performers, DJs, vendors and community activities. The event is free, but Native Sol is asking for community donations to help support event production. To learn more, visit their Eventbrite page.
‘King Kong’ Screening: 6 p.m. The Art Theatre of Long Beach (2025 E. Fourth St.) will host a screening of the 1933 classic “King Kong” on 16mm film, starring Bruce Cabot, Fay Wray and Frank Reicher. Tickets range from $13.59 for students (with ID), seniors, and children, $14.50 for military (with ID) and $16.50 for adults. Tickets are on sale on the Art Theatre Long Beach website.

City of Long Beach budget hearing: 5 p.m. The Long Beach City Council will have its last scheduled 2027 budget hearing at the Civic Chambers (411 W. Ocean Blvd.), where members of the public can share their feedback on the proposed budget. Free.
Junk Journaling: 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Residents ages 8 and older are invited to capture memories and create art in a fun and sustainable way during this junk journaling workshop at the Signal Hill Public Library (1800 E. Hill St.). Registration is required by calling 562-989-7323. Free.
Wednesday 9/9
Barista Business Class: 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Erica Escalante, a cafe and bakery consultant, will host an in-person workshop to teach cafe business through a behind-the-scenes look for cafe workers such as baristas, shift leads or aspiring managers. Drink and Draw: 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Stop by ISM Brewing (210 E. Third St., Unit A) for Art Clout’s monthly Drink and Draw event and an art reception for Eric Almanza’s art residency. There, you can meet other Long Beach artists, drink and draw. Some art supplies will be provided, but it is recommended to bring your own supplies. Free.
Thursday 9/10
Yoga at the Park: 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. All levels of yogis 18 and older are welcome to this slow-moving, gentle practice at Reservoir Park (3315 Gundry Ave.). Visitors must bring their own yoga mat. Registration is required by calling 563-989-7330. Free.
Immersive Theatre: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Drink tea at the Historic Bembridge House (953 N. Park Circle) and immerse yourself into three acts of theatre that move throughout the house, from Riders to the Sea and Some Silly Acts for Three. Guests can attend one of two performances on Sept. 10 and 17, each evening featuring a different act. There will be unlimited hot tea, coffee and a self-serve buffet of sweet and savory refreshments. Tickets are $14 and can be purchased on Eventbrite.
