The Alpert Jewish Community Center (JCC) is now taking applications for teens interested in attending the Maccabi Games in Detroit, MI, Aug. 15-Aug. 22. Competing in the Jewish Olympic- style event, each athlete has the chance to participate in one of 14 sporting events and create memories that will last a lifetime.
The JCC Maccabi Games are deemed by some as the Olympics for Jewish teens, but they serve a larger purpose than athletic competition. The Games also promote community involvement, teamwork and pride in being Jewish.
The Games is said to be the largest Jewish teen event in the world, with over 6,000 Jewish teens participating in the event each summer. More than 100,000 teens have benefited from the JCC Maccabi Games since 1982. The energy and excitement make it a unique and unforgettable experience for every participant, from athletes to volunteers, from coaches to host families.
Applications are currently being accepted for teens ages 13-16 with a $500 deposit. The deadline to submit applications is Mar. 1. Applications and deposits need to be made attention to “Cindy Jarvis, Sports, Recreation & Aquatics Director. “
Applications can be delivered in person or mailed to the Alpert Jewish Community Center, located at 3601 East Willow Street in Long Beach.
