Wilson High School students will have a spring in their step this Saturday, April 12 as Keith and Linda Clifton host “Friends in Dance.” A part of the Clifton Dance Project, Friends in Dance this year will showcase the talents of choreographers both seasoned and up-and-coming.
The dancing showcase was the product of Al Gilbert, known to the group as the “late and great Pied Piper of Dance,” who began the event in the early 1990s with the same idea in mind. Through the years, many prominent dancers have performed, including Terry Lindholm as well as winners of the television show So You Think You Can Dance.
Something different for this year’s production will be a dedication to Daniel French, a dancer and student who lost his life to epilepsy at the age of 30.
All proceeds will go to the Epilepsy Foundation, a national volunteer agency dedicated to the welfare of more than 3 million people with epilepsy in the U.S. and their families. The organization works to ensure that people with seizures are able to participate in all life experiences and improve how people with epilepsy are perceived, accepted and valued in society as well as promote research for a cure.
Friends in Dance starts at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 12. Tickets are $15 pre-sale and $18 at the door. Wilson High School is located at 4400 East 10th Street in Long Beach. For tickets or more information, call (714) 963-5225.
