A seasonal way to save 50 gallons of water per day and keep cool during the hot summer months is water play.
Kids can run through sprinklers during the recommended watering hours in early morning or late afternoon, or, during the midday heat, they can go to public parks that offer water play areas:
• Liberty Park, 19211 Studebaker Road, in Cerritos has lots to do for the whole family. The water play area has buckets that dump out water, sprinklers that squirt from the ground, and a circular feature that shoots water into the middle for kids to run through.
The water feature operates from about 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
• Rotary Centennial Park is located on the south side of Pacific Coast Highway between Sherman Way and Junipero Avenue in Long Beach. The park features a solar-system theme that contains art installations of the planets, benches, turf, trees, playground equipment, a half-court basketball court, a gazebo and a water-play feature.
• The City of Lakewood operates two public swimming pools and six wading pools throughout the summer season. Each swimming pool offers a variety of swim instruction programs and recreational swim opportunities. The pools also offer water fitness classes and special pool events.
Mayfair Pool is located at 5720 Clark Avenue, and McCormick Pool is located at 3300 Del Amo Boulevard.
