The fourth annual Hometown Heroes event, hosted by the Greater Long Beach Chapter of the American Red Cross, will honor people from the chapter’s nine-city community at a recognition breakfast Tuesday, April 8 at the Long Beach Hilton Hotel.
Individuals being honored at the event are everyday people who found themselves in extraordinary circumstances that inspired them to act heroically to save a life or assist another. The event, sponsored by Southern California Edison, embodies the concept of one community member hoping another.
A few of the individuals being celebrated at the Hometown Heroes event include Justin Brown, who provided emergency medical care to a gunshot victim outside his apartment building; David and Kim Salsbury, who rescued a drowning man from a harbor channel; and Long Beach Councilman Dee Andrews, who along with Fred Green and Tracy Walton, pried the security bars off the window of a burning home so the fire department could make a quick rescue.
The breakfast program begins at 7:30 a.m. and tickets are $35 per person. Sponsorship opportunities are also available to help pay for the heroes, guests, and when possible victims’ attendance.
