Margie Penny was reinstalled as president of the Children’s Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for the third year in a row at an installation of officers ceremony last month at Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach. Seventy-nine members and friends attended the event, for which the theme was “Three Times a Charm.”
Penny welcomed the guests and the all-volunteer team of the CMHA and thanked everyone for their continued efforts in the operation of the hospital gift shop, the second largest in the state of California.
Penny outlined key events in this past year including the auxiliary’s fashion show, the Nightingale Holiday and Spring Faires, the many birthday clubs, Child Life Holiday Party, the auxiliary’s cookbook and gift shop. She then presented to Jim Normandin, president of the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center Foundation, CMHA’s donation of $238,000. The check, which also included the auxiliary’s final payment of $110,000, thus completed its pledge of $500,000 for the Building Campaign at Miller Children’s Hospital.
Penny then presented to Dr. Gary Feldman, of Stramski’s Center for Children, the auxiliary’s donation of $40,000. He explained how very important this funding is for the children. Margie then explained that an additional $80,000 will go to Miller Children’s Hospital for assorted equipment purchases.
Dr. Mel Marks of Miller Children’s Hospital gave his thanks to Penny and the members and advised that the hospital is the only one in the area with surgery, imaging and two floors of critical care for children. The costly new building is greatly needed and help is greatly appreciated.
